Luxembourg, known as the heart of European diplomacy, hosted an event at the European Parliament in Kirchberg, which included various activities to celebrate Europe Day.
Visitors had the opportunity to delve into the richness of European culture by exploring the ‘Democracy Village’ and a wide range of informative stands with EU entities and representations from Member States. The event provided an interesting programme, including insights into European history, the upcoming European elections, and special activities to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the biggest enlargement in EU history.
As an added treat, this year’s celebrations offered a unique behind-the-scenes experience, allowing attendees to visit the European Parliament and participate in the ‘Europa Experience’, the largest interactive information centre in the European Union. Through state-of-the-art multimedia tools, this exhibition enables curious minds to discover how the European Union works and affects our daily lives, and showcases stories of citizens from all across Europe. Among the highlights, the ‘Europa Experience’ includes a 360° cinema with an immersive film on Europe, an augmented-reality station to discover the European Union in a new way, and a role-playing game area where you can step into the shoes of an MEP.
At the ‘Translating for Europe’ stand, staff from the Translation Centre came together with colleagues from the translation services from various European institutions to showcase the importance of multilingual communication in Europe. Besides the Translation Centre, the joint stand comprised representatives from the European Parliament, the European Commission, the Court of Justice of the European Union, the European Central Bank and the European Court of Auditors, who were on hand to provide visitors with insights into the essential role of language diversity and multilingualism, which are fundamental pillars of the EU.
We are proud to have joined this year’s celebration of Europe and all its values, appreciating diversity and embracing the profound impact that multilingualism fosters in the EU!
