In 2018, the European Commission put forward a European approach to artificial intelligence and robotics to support and strengthen the development of AI in Europe. Thereafter, and in line with this, the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) proposed the initiative called ‘Joint EU Forces on AI’ with the support of other leading Agencies (CdT, EMA, EUIPO). The aim of this initiative is to jointly explore and exploit the benefits of AI, share knowledge and foster synergies.

The four agencies started meeting in 2019 and set up the EU AI Virtual Community, a forum for fostering collaboration and knowledge-sharing in different areas in which AI is or can be used, e.g. in forecasting, automated reporting, image processing and document sanitisation. In this last field, the Centre, together with EMA, is the lead agency and is working on finding ways to automatically anonymise personal data in documents.

first public EU AI Talk, which will take place on 30 November 2022 from 15:00 – 17:00 (CET).

The aim of the Talk is to reflect on the importance and potential of artificial intelligence within the European Union, and more specifically with regard to the public sector and the EU Agencies.

The event will be attended by a very diverse panel of speakers, with stakeholders from the Translation Centre for the Bodies of the EU (CdT), the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA), the European Medicines Agency (EMA), and the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO), as well as Cosmina Dorobantu, Co-Director at The Alan Turing Institute, and Geert Hallemeesch, AI and Data Leader at Deloitte Belgium.
