The Translation Centre offers traineeships for nationals of the Member States of the European Union, and for nationals of candidate countries, who wish to gain experience in the work of the European Union in general and of the Translation Centre in particular.
How long is the traineeship?
Traineeships are for a minimum of three months and a maximum of twelve months.
Eligibility criteria
At the time of applying for a traineeship, applicants must meet the following requirements:
- academic qualifications: have successfully completed at least three years of higher education (university studies) or equivalent education attested by a diploma or relevant official certificate;
- language skills: have a thorough knowledge of one of the official languages of the European Union (level C1, under the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) and a satisfactory command of another EU language to the extent necessary to carry out duties (level B2, under the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages). Applicants from candidate countries must have a satisfactory knowledge (level B2) of one of the working languages of the Translation Centre (i.e. French or English).
Selection procedure
The Translation Centre publishes a call for traineeship applications on its website, inviting candidates to submit their application before the stated deadline.
Prior to that, the Translation Centre decides on the number of traineeships to be offered, depending on budgetary considerations and the capacity of each department to accommodate a trainee.
Traineeship grants
Trainees receive a monthly grant amounting to 25% of the basic monthly salary of a temporary member of staff in grade AD5, step 4, applicable from the starting date of the traineeship.
